A meteorite crashes in the Arizona desert, and when scientists Ira Kane (David Duchovny) and Harry Block (Orlando Jones) arrive to investigate, they discover it to be crammed with single-cell alien lifeforms which are rapidly evolving into fully-developed, multi-cellular creatures capable of creating all kinds of havoc. Teaming up with government scientist Allison Reed (Julianne Moore), Kane and Block do their best to battle the ever-growing threat, but as the aliens have escaped and are quickly transforming into tool-using primates, this could be a lot more difficult than they had first expected.
