Twin sisters Rosemary and Susie (both played by Hutton), fresh from their nightclub double act, decide to join the women's wartime entertainment crew known as the Waves when they hear that crooner Johnny Cabot (Crosby) is among the Navy men on board the ship setting sail. As Susie, the blonde, ditzy twin who has an infatuation for Johnny, is pessimistic of her chances of meeting the singer, straight-laced and serious brunette Rosemary encourages her to attend one of his shows where, after singing 'That Old Black Magic', he meets the twins. Johnny, however, is immediately taken with Rosemary and embarks upon a mission to win her heart.
