Ungefähr fünf Jahre nach ihrem bahnbrechenden dritten Demo "Surrender or Die" gab es Slaughter nicht mehr. Die Band hatte ihr erstes Album "Strappado" herausgebracht, ein Meisterwerk des tödlichen Thrash, und Mastermind Dave Hewson gründete eine neue Gruppe, die er nach der Platte benannte.
Die Besetzung änderte sich, ein zweiter Gitarrist stieß hinzu, und heraus kam das Album "Not Dead Yet", das die Band ohne Label auf Kassette veröffentlichte. Es wurde später unter dem Namen Slaughter neu aufgelegt - zu Recht, weil es nichts weniger als eine logische Weiterentwicklung des frühen Stils der Kanadier war.
