In 'Smokey and the Bandit' bootlegging truck driver The Bandit (Reynolds) bets Texan millionaire Big Enos Purdette (Pat McCormick) and his son Little Enos (Paul Williams) that he can smuggle a consignment of prohibited beer across state lines from Texas to Atlanta in just over a day. He enlists the help of his friend Cledus Snow (Reed) and along the way Bandit picks up runaway bride Carrie (Field), who turns out to be engaged to Texas Sheriff Buford Justice (Gleason)'s son Junior (Mike Henry). When Sheriff Justice finds out where Carrie is, he resolves to chase the Bandit all the way to Georgia if he has to. In 'Smokey and the Bandit 3' two entrepreneurs hire truck driver Cledus to deliver a replica shark from Miami to a seafood restaurant in Texas. On the way, Cledus is mistaken by Sheriff Justice (Gleason) for his old enemy The Bandit, and a high-speed chase ensues as Buford and his son, Junior, set out to apprehend him.
