Giuliano won the support of the people but was soon betrayed by those close to him. Based on the novel by 'Godfather' author Mario Puzo and directed by Michael Cimino ('The Deer Hunter', 'Heaven's Gate'), the film was originally released in the US in a shortened version, but the subsequent European and video releases saw it restored to its full 140 minute running time.
