A Son of the Sun consists of eight separate stories and is set in the South Pacific in the early 20th century. At the center is David Grief, a forty-year-old English adventurer who has managed to become rich and spends his time traveling between his various riches and islands, where he encounters swindlers, pirates, and cannibals.
