The combination of rock band and orchestra has seldom been successful. However, it was long thought that the large, sweeping soundscapes and emphasis on melodic structure in Yes's music may be the exception to the rule. Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White re-formed the band in 2001, fulfilling a long-held dream by taking the Yes Symphonic Tour on the road. For the first time ever, the band were accompanied onstage by the European Festival Orchestra, conducted by Willhelm Keitel.
