The author takes his starting point in his own experiences, among other things as a failed business negotiator and Swedish champion in kung fu, but we also get to know a number of people with unique knowledge of how to become high-performing in different areas. Among them are psychology professors Anders Ericsson and Carol Dweck, violinist Shinichi Suzuki, balance artist Peter Rosendahl, memory master Jonas von Essen, magician Stuart MacDonald, ice hockey expert Sture Näslund and \"chess master breeder\" László Polgár.

Per-Anders Grösfjeld is a civil engineer and lecturer. He works at Volvo Trucks and as a marketing teacher at the IHM Business School. Talent Hunt is his first book.

The Overestimated Experience

How important is it really to have years of experience? Is it really experience that makes you high-performing?

I myself have been driving a car for almost 30 years, but I am still unsure if I would pass a driving test today.

Several studies show that the amount of years you have worked in an area does not necessarily have any connection to you getting better.

Auditors with lots of experience are no better than recent graduates at detecting corporate fraud.

Experienced psychologists are no better at assessing personality disorders than newly trained ones.

Stockbrokers do not become more skilled over time at recommending stocks.

Not even experienced business leaders perform better than new ones – they actually perform worse.
